Volunteer Advocates:
Victim advocates are individuals who have been screened for suitability and obtain a RCMP enhanced security clearance. They receive specialized training in over 30 crisis support and intervention situations including: assault, hate crimes, property crimes, robbery, sexual assault, stalking and harassment, family violence, bereavement and sudden death.
Advocates have three main goals:
- to provide assistance and support
- to provide information
- to provide referrals
Advocates do not provide counselling.
Our unit provides invaluable assistance to victims after a crime or tragedy. Victim Services can assist clients that have questions and want to know what to expect.
If you have an interest in helping people within your community and want to engage in a challenging volunteer opportunity contact Victim Services.
Board of Directors:
The Victim Services Society of Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and District is governed by a Board of Directors. A position on the board is a very interesting and dynamic way to be involved with the program without being directly involved with a victim’s situation. The role of the Board is to establish policies, make significant and strategic decisions, and oversee the organization.
